The United Nations condemned the killing of civilians in the Gaza Strip and called for protection of health-care facilities in the besieged territory. In remarks reported on August 4, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres’ deputy spokesperson Farhan Haq said the organization condemns all killings of civilians.

Haq said Gaza health authorities reported that more than 150 people were killed in Israeli attacks in July, the highest monthly death toll since the start of the year. He also expressed concern over an Israeli attack on Friday at a medical-supplies warehouse near Al-Aqsa Hospital, which was reported destroyed.

The UN official said health-care facilities should never be attacked or used for military purposes. He warned that stocks of insulin for people with diabetes, medicines needed by heart patients, and other medical supplies were running low. Alcohol-based disinfectants needed for hand hygiene and infection prevention were also nearly unavailable. Haq said many additional medical supplies required for infection prevention and control were awaiting Israeli approval to enter Gaza.

Hamas has accused Israel of escalating attacks in the Gaza Strip to derail a ceasefire agreement. In a statement issued Sunday evening, the Palestinian group said the attacks were being deliberately intensified to obstruct understandings reached with the US administration and mediators for completing implementation of the ceasefire deal.

Hamas said Israel's “criminal and frenzied bombardment” in Gaza had completely wiped out many families. It called on mediators to pressure Israel to halt the attacks and to take immediate action. The report did not include a response from Israel to the allegations.

The statement came as Israeli forces continued bombing Gaza despite the announcement of Trump’s roadmap for implementing the second phase of a peace agreement. At least 19 Palestinians were reported killed in the bombardment. The roadmap is expected to include Hamas’s disarmament and the withdrawal of Israeli troops from Gaza, according to the report.

They never returned.

Rafaat searched hospitals, displacement shelters and relatives without finding them. Reports of unidentified bodies near the family home and at al-Ahli Arab Hospital could not be confirmed as the boys. In May, the family was told by an alleged lawyer that the brothers were alive in Israeli detention at Ofer and Naqab prisons, but the claim was never officially verified and the lawyer could not be reached.

Gaza’s Government Media Office estimates about 11,200 people remain missing across the territory. The ICRC says it has thousands of open tracing requests but has had no access to Israeli detention sites since October 2023, limiting its ability to confirm detentions. The family says it wants one certain answer about the boys’ fate.

The Israeli military said it killed two Hamas commanders in airstrikes at separate locations in the Gaza Strip. According to an Al Jazeera report published on August 2, 2026, Salam Jamal Abd al-Rahman Abu Labad was killed in an airstrike carried out in southern Gaza on Saturday.

Israeli forces said Abu Labad was responsible for a cell in Hamas’s Nukhba special forces. The military alleged that he directly took part in an attack on Kibbutz Nir Oz in southern Israel in October 2023.

In an earlier, separate airstrike in central Gaza on Friday, Israeli forces said they killed Muhammad Abd al-Nasser Muhammad Khatib, described as the commander of Hamas’s Maghazi Battalion. The report did not include a Hamas response to the Israeli military’s claims or additional information about the strikes.

At least eight Palestinians were killed and several others wounded in separate Israeli military airstrikes on residential buildings across the besieged Gaza Strip on Sunday, according to information published by Al Jazeera Arabic correspondents. The deaths brought the total number of Palestinians reported killed in Israeli attacks since Sunday morning to eight.

An Israeli airstrike on a house in Deir al-Balah in central Gaza killed two people at the scene and wounded several others. A separate strike on a residential apartment in northern Gaza City killed three people and injured several more. In al-Qarara, north of Khan Younis in southern Gaza, an Israeli airstrike killed three Palestinians from the same family.

The Nasser Medical Complex in Khan Younis confirmed the deaths of the three people killed in al-Qarara. International media had reported that at least eight Palestinians were also killed in various Israeli attacks across Gaza on Saturday. Separately, former senior Fatah leader Mohammed Dahlan said Jared Kushner had assured him he was working closely with the Israeli government to stop attacks in Gaza.

Israel’s military said it killed two Hamas commanders and a military intelligence official in separate airstrikes across the besieged Gaza Strip over the past week. The claims, reported on July 26, 2026, concerned strikes in central and northern Gaza on Monday and Tuesday, according to the Israeli military.

Israel said Mahankad Asad Mahmoud Abu Ghazal, commander of Hamas’s elite Nukhba cell, was killed in an airstrike in central Gaza on Monday. It said Raed Hani Mohammed al-Amsi, head of Hamas’s Aerial Surveillance Platoon, was killed in a separate strike in northern Gaza on Tuesday.

The Israeli military also said Nabhan Mohammed Nabhan al-Amsi, head of the military intelligence department of Hamas’s Gaza Brigade, was killed in the same Tuesday strike. Hamas had not issued an immediate reaction or comment on the claims. The report said at least 73,317 Palestinians have been killed in Israel’s military campaign in Gaza since October 2023, with women and children comprising a large share of those killed.
