India’s satirical political group, the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP), has dismissed its spokesperson, Bijeta Dahiya, after a video showing her eating a burger during a protest march toward Parliament went viral on social media. The decision was announced on Tuesday following the incident that occurred during Monday’s demonstration in Delhi. The party stated that Dahiya’s actions were “deeply insensitive” and inconsistent with its principles, removing her from all official duties.

The protest, largely attended by young students, was organized to demand the resignation of India’s Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over alleged irregularities and question paper leaks in national examinations. Police used tear gas and batons to disperse the crowd, reporting that 178 people were injured, including 118 police personnel and around 60 protesters.

In response to criticism, Dahiya released a video defending her actions, saying she ate the burger out of hunger or desire and questioned why she was being held accountable. She asserted that her political involvement was voluntary and that she was not answerable to anyone.

A mobile court in Lakshmipur’s BSCIC industrial area fined Abu Taher Chana Company Tk 300,000 for producing fake ghee. The operation, led by Assistant Commissioner (Land) and Executive Magistrate Abhi Dash on July 21, 2026, seized 38 cartons of counterfeit ghee. The company’s manager and technician, Zillal Hossain, was fined and sentenced to two months of rigorous imprisonment if the fine is not paid. The main owner, Abdul Mannan, who is Zillal’s brother, remains absconding.

According to the mobile court, the company had taken an order to sell 50 cartons of ghee. Acting on information from the National Security Intelligence, the Safe Food Authority assisted in the raid. Each seized carton contained twelve 900-gram jars of fake ghee, which will be destroyed. Zillal admitted that they used soybean oil, dalda, and ghee flavoring to produce the counterfeit product, which was sold for Tk 1,400 per jar.

Food inspector Sumadhu Chakraborty said the company had approval to produce margarine ghee but was illegally manufacturing fake ghee under unsanitary conditions, posing health risks to consumers.

Bangladesh Bank has temporarily suspended Assistant Director Rakibul Hasan Khan Rocky over allegations of involvement in fraud, online betting, and cryptocurrency transactions. The decision was announced through an internal office order issued last Sunday, under section 45(5) of the Bangladesh Bank Staff Regulations, 2003. During the suspension, he will receive subsistence allowance as per section 21(a) of the Administrative Guidelines, 2003, and the order took immediate effect.

According to Executive Director and spokesperson Arif Hossain Khan, the suspension follows standard procedure when an employee faces a police case, pending investigation. He added that the suspension would be withdrawn if Rakibul is cleared of the charges. Last week, a team led by Detective Branch chief Md. Shafiqul Islam conducted a raid at the central bank’s headquarters to arrest Rakibul, but he fled before the operation and remains absconding.

Sources from Bangladesh Bank and the Detective Branch stated that Rakibul maintained multiple bank accounts through which transactions worth several crores of taka were made. A case has been filed, and an investigation is ongoing.

The Bangladesh Computer Council (BCC) has issued a public warning after discovering a fraudulent group using the name and designation of its Director (Training and Development) to conduct fake training programs and circulate forged documents. In a press release on Tuesday, BCC urged all government offices, educational institutions, and the public to remain alert against such scams.

According to the statement, the group has been spreading false letters and notices under a project titled 'Modernization of Urban and Rural Life through Information Technology.' The forged documents, dated June 28, 2026, falsely claimed that computer application training would be held in 520 secondary schools across 104 upazilas, with financial transactions involving fees and allowances. BCC clarified that all its training and financial dealings are conducted only through official channels and that it never charges trainees any fees.

The council further advised against engaging in any unauthorized financial transactions and stated that it will not bear responsibility for dealings with unapproved individuals or organizations.

Indian scholar and All India Muslim Personal Law Board executive member Shaykh Khalilur Rahman Sajjad Nomani said that people of the East often engage in philosophical talk while the West demonstrates progress through action. He made the remarks at a seminar in Uttara, Dhaka, organized by Darul Arqam Al-Islamia and Diniyat, focusing on the role of thoughtful scholars in building an enlightened society through the integration of religious and general education.

Nomani emphasized that earlier Muslim scholars opposed British aggression and the English language, urging participants to recognize the blessings of their country and to work for its betterment through positive cooperation. Born in 1955 in Lucknow, Nomani is a prominent Islamic thinker, researcher, and educator in the subcontinent. He serves as director of the Shah Waliullah Research Institute in Mumbai and has been recognized internationally for his scholarship in Quran, Hadith, and Islamic thought.

A passenger on the Panchagarh–Dhaka-bound Drutajan Express suffered severe injury to his right eye after an unidentified person threw a stone at the moving train on Tuesday afternoon. The incident occurred between Ullapara and Jamtoil railway stations in Sirajganj’s Kamarkhand upazila. The injured passenger, identified as Sabbir Hossain, 22, from Keshabpur village in Akkelpur upazila of Joypurhat, was taken off the train at Jamtoil station and given initial treatment before being transferred to the National Institute of Ophthalmology and Hospital in Dhaka.

According to police and local sources, the stone hit Sabbir directly in the right eye, causing serious damage that reportedly resulted in the loss of vision. Railway officials confirmed the incident but said detailed information was still unavailable. The officer-in-charge of Sirajganj Bazar Railway Station Police stated that legal proceedings regarding the attack were underway.

Authorities have not yet identified the perpetrator, and the investigation into the stone-throwing incident is ongoing.

South Korea’s Ambassador to Bangladesh, Kim Ji Joon, paid a courtesy call on Brigadier General (Retd.) A K M Shamsul Islam, the Prime Minister’s Defense Adviser, on Tuesday afternoon at the Armed Forces Division in Dhaka Cantonment. The meeting was confirmed in a press release issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations Directorate (ISPR).

Haridas Chandra Tarani Das, also known as Tawhid Islam, has been sent to Mymensingh jail in a new fraud case. The Mymensingh Joint District and Sessions Judge (Finance and Loan) Court ordered his detention after showing him arrested in a pending fraud case where he had previously been sentenced to one year in prison. He was earlier arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on July 12 from Palashbari, Gaibandha, in a money laundering case involving suspicious transactions worth about Tk 9.35 crore.

He later converted to Islam, married in Fulbaria, and became known for alleged fraud, property accumulation, and influence in local affairs. Authorities and locals have accused him of using political connections and misusing photos with former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to gain influence.

Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapan described Mashiur Rahman Jadu Mia as the principal architect of nationalist political transformation in Bangladesh. Speaking at a discussion marking Jadu Mia’s 102nd birth anniversary at the National Press Club on Tuesday, he said Jadu Mia’s foresight enabled him to transform a military officer into a political leader and to chart a path during times of misrule and political uncertainty.

The minister noted that Jadu Mia was among the few imprisoned by the Pakistani government during the Liberation War and later demonstrated exceptional vision during the post-war and post-1975 political transitions. He said that after 1975, most political parties in Bangladesh faced confusion and loss of direction, but Jadu Mia’s leadership stood out.

Dhaka University and the Pakistan High Commission in Bangladesh have expressed interest in strengthening academic cooperation between higher education institutions of the two countries. The agreement was reached during a courtesy meeting between Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. A.B.M. Obaidul Islam and Pakistan High Commissioner Imran Haider at the Vice-Chancellor’s office on Tuesday. Hasnat Abdullah, chief organizer of the National Citizens Party (NCP) and Member of Parliament for Cumilla-4 (Debidwar), declared that there will be no place for fascism in the new Bangladesh. Speaking on Tuesday afternoon at a ‘July March and Street Rally’ organized by the NCP at the Central Shaheed Minar in Chitalmari, Bagerhat, he said the party aims to build a country where farmers, workers, and laborers enjoy equal rights. Bangladeshi filmmaker Adnan Al Rajib, whose short film ‘Ali’ won an award at the Cannes Film Festival, is set to make his debut as a feature film director. The National Institute of Nuclear Medicine and Allied Sciences (NINMAS) at Bangladesh Medical University (BMU) inaugurated a new research cell and a modern library to enhance research and diagnostic services. The inauguration took place on Tuesday at the D Block of the BMU campus, followed by a gathering of current and former professors, doctors, scientists, resident students, and staff at the Dr. Kamaluddin Ahmed Auditorium.

Speakers at the event highlighted the importance of nuclear medicine as a unique integration of science, healthcare, and human welfare.
