Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry has welcomed reports of a potential agreement between Iran and the United States, according to a statement cited by Al Jazeera Arabic on May 7, 2026. The ministry said Islamabad supports the development but will not disclose any information at this stage to maintain the trust of both parties involved in the mediation process.

The statement clarified that Pakistan would not comment on the terms or progress of the possible deal and that it has no confirmed information on where the next round of talks or meetings between the two delegations will take place. However, Pakistan expressed that hosting such discussions in Islamabad would be considered a great honor.

Pakistan has been acting as a mediator to ease tensions between Iran and the United States. On the same day, Iran was expected to deliver an official response to a U.S. proposal through Pakistan, underscoring Islamabad’s continuing role in facilitating communication between the two sides.

Police recovered the body of an unidentified man from Kamalla village in Munshirhat Union of Fulgazi upazila, Feni, near the India border on Thursday morning. Locals discovered the body lying near a poultry farm west of former UP member Janu Member’s house and informed police, who retrieved it around 6:45 a.m.

According to police, the deceased appeared to be between 45 and 50 years old, but no one in the area could identify him. Officers prepared an inquest report at the scene and began efforts to determine his identity. Assistant Superintendent of Police Nishad Tabassum said the location was about 150 yards from the Indian border. The Border Security Force (BSF) of India has been notified and sent a photograph of the body.

The Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) is visiting the site for further inquiry. Authorities stated that necessary legal steps will be taken after the investigation is completed.

Following the father’s arrest after a Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) raid on April 28, the mother, Sajeda Begum, and other family members fled their home fearing for their lives. Sajeda Begum claimed her sons Rubel and Shiblu, both involved in criminal activities, placed the weapon out of revenge and greed for property.

Family members said Rubel and Shiblu had previously assaulted their parents and vandalized their home over property disputes. After being released on bail under their father’s custody, Rubel allegedly pressured him to withdraw a case and later threatened him. Following Obaidul’s detention, the two sons reportedly looted his business, renaming it “Rubel Traders.”

RAB inspector Md Fakhruddin Azad Molla confirmed the weapon recovery based on intelligence but said he was unaware of the alleged framing. Police stated that a regular case has been filed and legal action will follow after investigation.

Iran has announced that its ports are ready to provide technical support, supplies, and medical services to commercial ships stranded in the Strait of Hormuz. The state news agency IRNA reported that the Ports and Maritime Organization (PMO) sent an emergency message to ship captains in the Persian Gulf region, assuring access to fuel, food, maintenance equipment, and healthcare at Iranian ports.

The Noakhali district unit of Chhatra Dal organized a celebratory rally on Wednesday afternoon to congratulate central general secretary Nasir Uddin Nasir and mark the formation of its new committee.
