Central Chhatra Shibir leader Jisan was rescued from Laksam, Cumilla, 23 hours after being abducted from Daudkandi. His elder brother, Advocate Russel Rafi, confirmed the rescue on Friday night, stating that Jisan’s physical condition was very critical. According to police, he was found at Laksam Railway Station and taken to a local hospital for initial treatment.

Jisan had returned from Dhaka to his home village in Daudkandi, Cumilla, on Thursday. He last contacted his father around 8 p.m., saying he had reached Daudkandi and would soon be home. His WhatsApp showed last online at 8:29 p.m., after which his phone was switched off and his Facebook account deactivated. Family members and associates could not locate him despite extensive searches, prompting his brother to file a complaint with the police.

Police officials confirmed the rescue operation and ongoing medical care, but no details were provided about the abductors or the motive behind the incident.

On Friday, an eleven-party alliance organized protest rallies and marches in several border districts of Bangladesh, demanding an immediate end to border killings and forced push-ins allegedly carried out by Indian authorities. Demonstrations took place in districts including Moulvibazar, Jessore, Dinajpur, Brahmanbaria, Naogaon, Feni, Khagrachhari, and others, where speakers condemned the incidents and called for stronger diplomatic action by the government.

In Jessore’s Benapole, speakers described the killings and push-ins as violations of international law and human rights, urging unity to protect national sovereignty. Similar sentiments were echoed in Naogaon and Feni, where participants demanded effective government measures to ensure border security. In Moulvibazar’s Kamalganj, speakers alleged that 19 Bangladeshis were killed and 24 injured by Indian border guards in the past 100 days.

The alliance’s nationwide demonstrations reflected growing concern over cross-border incidents and called for immediate cessation of such actions, emphasizing national unity and diplomatic engagement to safeguard Bangladesh’s sovereignty and human rights.

The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) has instructed six hospitals in Dhaka to ensure emergency medical care for patients previously admitted to Ad-Din Women’s Medical College Hospital in Moghbazar. The directive was issued on Friday, June 12, through a notice signed by Dr. Abu Hossain Md. Moinul Ahsan, Director of the Hospital and Clinic Branch of the DGHS.

According to the notice, the license of Ad-Din Women’s Medical College Hospital, located in Moghbazar, was canceled on June 11. In response, the DGHS directed that patients referred from the hospital must receive immediate and appropriate treatment at designated facilities. The six hospitals named in the directive are Dhaka Medical College Hospital, Sir Salimullah Medical College and Mitford Hospital, Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital, Mugda Medical College Hospital, Kurmitola General Hospital, and Bangladesh Shishu Hospital and Institute.

The instruction aims to prevent disruption of medical services for patients affected by the license cancellation and to ensure continuity of care within the capital’s public health system.

Prime Minister and BNP Chairperson Tarique Rahman is scheduled to visit Chakaria and Pekua in Cox’s Bazar on Saturday, June 13, 2026. According to the official schedule, he will arrive at Cox’s Bazar International Airport at 9:45 a.m., inaugurate a canal excavation project in Machuakhali, and later attend a tree-planting event at Dulahazara Safari Park. Science and Technology Minister Fakir Mahbub Anam announced that 300 megawatts of electricity from the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant will be connected to Bangladesh’s national grid by the end of August 2026. Former Chief Prosecutor of the International Crimes Tribunal, Mohammad Tazul Islam, stated that martyrs remain in the nation’s consciousness and will continue to inspire life. He made the remark in a Facebook post on Friday night after visiting the Shaheed Mir Mugdho Mancha in Uttara.

Earlier, on Thursday, Tazul Islam had called for legal action against actress Meher Afroz Shaon over what he described as a controversial statement about the new Bangladesh achieved through the July Revolution. In his post, he accused her of exceeding all limits of audacity and linked her comments to two incidents: the burning of the July Memorial in Netrakona and the alleged abduction and torture of a July fighter by members of the Chhatra League. He described both incidents as serious criminal offenses.

US Vice President JD Vance stated that any potential agreement with Iran will be structured to prioritize the security and strategic concerns of the United States and its allies. A Bangladeshi youth named Mujibur Rahman Mujib, aged 26, was shot dead by India’s Border Security Force (BSF) near the Dattagram border area of Sharifpur Union in Kulaura upazila, Moulvibazar. The incident occurred on Friday evening after 5 p.m. at the Manu River char near the Indian Tarbera area. Local sources reported that BSF members opened fire when Mujibur approached the riverbank, killing him on the spot.

Mujibur Rahman was the son of Azizur Rahman Ajib from Dattagram village. Local Union Parishad member Md. Harun Mia confirmed that the body remained at the scene after the shooting. Acting chairman of Sharifpur Union, Nipa Rani Das, also verified the incident. The report noted that tension has been prevailing in the border area following the shooting.

The source added that no immediate statement was available from the Indian BSF or other relevant authorities regarding the incident.

The Islami Chhatra Andolan Bangladesh has strongly protested the government’s decision to make music, fine arts, drama, and dance compulsory under the ‘Arts and Culture’ subject in primary schools. In a joint statement issued on Friday, the organization’s central president Muntasir Ahmad and secretary general Sultan Mahmud condemned the move, calling it an attempt to impose anti-Islamic culture on young children. They warned that such initiatives would be resisted through united action if not withdrawn.

The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) has approved the Bashkhali-Anwara-Chakaria regional highway widening and modernization project in Chattogram at an estimated cost of Tk 1,188.48 crore. The 58.20-kilometer road will be expanded to 70 feet in width. Officials believe the project will significantly improve connectivity across South Chattogram and Cox’s Bazar, making travel faster and safer through the Karnaphuli Tunnel.

Public Administration Adviser Md. Ismail Jobiullah has called on parents to prepare their children to become global citizens and humane individuals rather than focusing solely on making them doctors or engineers. He emphasized that every child has unique talents and that the state has a duty to identify and nurture them. Referring to the vision of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman and former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia, he said current Prime Minister Tareq Rahman is creating new opportunities for youth development.

He urged teachers to encourage curiosity and entrepreneurship among students, evaluate them by their individuality, and help them think critically and independently rather than following blindly.

The Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA) has welcomed the inclusion of tax reforms and expanded solar power import facilities in the proposed 2026–27 national budget. In a statement issued on Friday, the association thanked the finance minister and the National Board of Revenue for increasing tax benefits in the solar energy sector and moving toward a medium-term policy framework.

BKMEA noted that the long-standing demand for an effective system to adjust or refund advance income tax (AIT) at source remains crucial, as delays in refunds restrict working capital and create liquidity challenges. The group also viewed the expansion of tax benefits for solar systems and related equipment as a positive step to address the energy crisis. It supported duty-free raw material imports for non-bonded export-oriented firms but urged reconsideration of the proposed 5% tax on polyester staple fiber imports, citing limited domestic production.

The association emphasized that gas and electricity shortages and high interest rates continue to challenge the industry. While it assessed the proposed budget positively, BKMEA said its success will depend on effective implementation by relevant institutions.

The Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) has described the newly proposed 2026–27 national budget by the BNP government as positive for the country’s capital market. In a press release issued after Finance Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury presented the budget in parliament, DSE Chairman Mominul Islam said the government’s active interest in developing, modernizing, and stabilizing the market is reflected in recent policy and institutional initiatives.

He noted that the appointment of a special assistant on capital market affairs and the finance minister’s emphasis on the sector have generated optimism among market participants. The proposed budget’s measures to strengthen coordination among regulatory bodies were termed timely and constructive, expected to enhance efficiency, transparency, and accountability in market operations. The DSE also welcomed the initiative to simplify NITA account management and highlighted its own move toward T+1 and eventually T+0 settlement systems.

According to the DSE, these steps will help attract domestic and foreign investment, deepen the market, and build a modern, transparent, and sustainable capital market for future generations.

Ad-Din Hospital will appeal to the government for reconsideration of a recent decision concerning the institution. Senior Supreme Court lawyer Advocate Shishir Monir announced that the appeal would be filed the following day, citing the urgent needs of ICU, NICU, and maternity patients. He stated in a Facebook post that the appeal would be submitted via email.

Earlier, the lawyer clarified in another Facebook post that it was not Ad-Din Hospital but its pathology center whose license had been canceled. He added that on June 4, the hospital received a show-cause notice under the Medical Practice and Private Clinics and Laboratories (Regulation) Ordinance, 1982. The notice referenced license number HSM 4310059 and required a response within 72 hours.

The hospital’s move to appeal indicates an effort to maintain continuity of critical medical services while seeking a review of the government’s regulatory decision.
