A 158.20-carat rare yellow diamond has been discovered at the Diavik Diamond Mine in Canada’s Northwest Territories. The find, made in March 2025 and announced by Rio Tinto on April 1, 2026, originated from one of the world’s most remote mining sites, located on a small island in Lac de Gras about 200 kilometers south of the Arctic Circle. The mine operates off the national power grid and is accessible only by ice road in winter or floatplane in summer.

According to Rio Tinto, the diamond formed around two billion years ago deep within the Earth. Its yellow hue results from nitrogen atoms in its structure, making it exceptionally rare and valuable. Yellow diamonds account for less than one percent of Diavik’s total production, and this is only the fifth yellow diamond from the mine weighing over 100 carats.

Mongla Port in Bagerhat has achieved record progress in container handling following the launch of new anchorage facilities. Police in Tongi, Gazipur recovered the bodies of a father and his teenage son early Sunday. The father, Sohel Hossain Darji, 55, was found dead on a nearby railway track, while his 17-year-old son, Sakib Hossain Darji, was discovered on the floor of their home. Both were residents of the Bonmala area in Dattapara. Following the discovery, police detained Sohel’s elder son, Sohan Darji, 30, for questioning.

According to relatives, Sohel had been living with his family in a tin-shed house in the Bonmala area for several years. Sohan reportedly called his aunt before dawn, claiming that someone had killed his father and brother. Locals found Sakib’s body bloodied inside the house and Sohel’s body on the railway line. Police later sent both bodies to the morgue at Tajuddin Medical College Hospital.

A sudden nor'wester storm and heavy rain on April 26, 2026, forced authorities to suspend all ferry, launch, and speedboat operations on the Shibaloy–Kazirhat and Paturia–Daulatdia river routes in Manikganj. A Natore court has granted bail to a seven-year-old boy accused in an attempted murder case. The child, dressed in his school uniform, appeared before the Women and Children Court and applied for bail. Judge Muhammad Rafiqul Islam approved the bail on a bond of 500 taka under the custody of a lawyer and summoned the complainant, Shahanur Rahman, to appear on the next hearing date. The defense lawyer stated that the complainant had intentionally misrepresented the boy’s age out of personal animosity. Police officials said the false age information was provided by the complainant and confirmed that the boy’s name would be removed from the case after investigation.

More than one hundred students became ill after eating school feeding tiffin at Makrampur Government Primary School in Gomastapur upazila of Chapainawabganj on Sunday afternoon. The tiffin distributed under the school feeding program contained eggs. Shortly after eating, many students developed itching and other symptoms, prompting concern among teachers and parents.

Doctors from the Gomastapur Upazila Health Complex provided immediate treatment to the affected students. According to physician Shahidul Islam, most of the children showed signs of allergic skin reactions and were stabilized after receiving prompt care. He suggested that the illness was likely caused by a food-related allergy.

Upazila Primary Education Officer Isahak stated that medical assistance was arranged immediately after the incident and that stricter monitoring will be enforced to ensure food safety in future school feeding distributions.
