Four expatriate brothers from Rangunia in Chattogram were found dead inside a car in the Muladda area of Oman on Tuesday night. Bangladesh Meteorological Department reported that rainfall caused by a western low-pressure system is continuing across the country and is expected to persist for the next five days. The agency warned that heavy to very heavy rainfall may occur in parts of Rangpur, Mymensingh, and Sylhet divisions until Saturday, with possible temporary waterlogging in some areas of Sylhet. The latest forecast issued at 6 p.m. on Thursday indicated that heavy rain could continue until Monday.

The High Court Division of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh disposed of 7,104 old cases in a single day, according to an announcement from the Supreme Court administration on Thursday, May 14, 2026. The University Grants Commission (UGC) of Bangladesh has placed the private European University of Bangladesh on its red list. The decision was formalized in a letter signed by Dr. Md. According to the UGC website, the university appears at serial number 52 among private universities, now marked with three red stars.

The UGC cited several reasons for the red listing, including ongoing ownership disputes and legal cases involving the university’s Board of Trustees, admission of students beyond the approved capacity, and operation of academic activities on a campus built on less land than required under the Private University Act, 2010, even after twelve years. The commission also noted that the university had not complied with directives from the Ministry of Education and the UGC.
