Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Administrator Shafiqul Islam Khan visited Mirpur’s Kazipara and Shewrapara areas on Friday to inspect waterlogging caused by heavy rainfall. During the visit, he instructed city cleaning staff to take immediate steps to drain the accumulated rainwater and personally walked through flooded areas to observe the drainage system. He also urged local shopkeepers not to dump waste into drains.

Later, the administrator inspected the cleanliness of the Mirpur-12 No. 6 raw market area, where he expressed dissatisfaction over the uncollected garbage and unhygienic conditions. He called local shopkeepers, committee members, and community leaders to address the issue promptly and directed the Zone-2 regional executive officer to ensure regular market cleanliness.

Officials from the Dhaka North City Corporation accompanied the administrator during the inspection visits.

The Bangladesh Meteorological Department has advised all four seaports—Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla, and Payra—to hoist local cautionary signal number three. The warning, issued on Friday and signed by meteorologist Dr. Md. Omar Faruk, stated that squally winds may blow over the maritime ports, the north Bay of Bengal, and adjacent coastal areas of Bangladesh.

According to the department, a well-marked low over northwest Madhya Pradesh and adjoining areas has weakened into a low-pressure area over central Uttar Pradesh and nearby regions. The system is likely to weaken further, but differences in air pressure remain high over the north Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas, creating conditions for strong winds.

All fishing boats and trawlers operating in the north Bay have been advised to remain close to the coast and proceed with caution until further notice.

Bangladesh’s Minister for Road Transport, Bridges, Railways, and Shipping, Sheikh Robiul Alam, held a bilateral meeting in London with UK Transport Minister The Right Honourable Heidi Alexander. During the meeting, he requested the United Kingdom’s assistance in simplifying and expediting OKTB, transit, and seafarer-related visas for Bangladeshi sailors working on international vessels. The discussion took place on Thursday, with details released by Bangladesh’s Ministry of Shipping on Friday.

The minister called for greater British investment, joint ventures, technology transfer, and public-private partnerships in Bangladesh’s shipbuilding, marine engineering, port development, and maritime industries. He highlighted Bangladesh’s commitment to implementing the Hong Kong International Convention to ensure global standards in ship recycling, noting that 27 of the country’s 42 recycling yards already meet international criteria. He also reaffirmed Bangladesh’s support for global efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and promote sustainable maritime transport.

Both sides expressed determination to strengthen cooperation in transport, shipping, railways, port development, trade, and investment. Sheikh Robiul Alam invited the UK minister to visit Bangladesh at a convenient time.

An eleven-party alliance will hold a divisional rally in Rangpur on Saturday to press for several national demands, including the implementation of the Teesta mega project, effective measures to end border killings and push-ins, and steps to reduce public suffering. The rally is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. at Rangpur Zilla School ground.

According to the alliance’s coordinator and Jamaat-e-Islami Assistant Secretary General Hamidur Rahman Azad, the event is part of a previously announced nationwide program. Opposition Leader and Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman MP will attend as chief guest, while Opposition Chief Whip and National Citizen Party (NCP) Convener Nahid Islam MP will preside. Leaders from several allied parties, including the LDP, Bangladesh Khelafat Majlis, Nezame Islam Party, and others, are expected to address the gathering.

Continuous heavy rainfall has caused a section of the Joyrampur-Kumaridah road in Howli Union of Damurhuda upazila, Chuadanga, to collapse, severely disrupting direct road communication between the two villages. The incident occurred after soil beneath the road near Joyrampur Kathaltala Jame Mosque washed away late Thursday night, leading to a 15-foot section of the road caving in. Thousands of residents, including students, farmers, and traders, are now forced to use longer alternative routes.

Local residents reported that the collapse has increased travel time and costs, while business activities have been negatively affected. They warned that without urgent repairs, the situation could worsen and pose safety risks. Villagers alleged that the road faces erosion risks every monsoon but no permanent preventive measures have been taken. They demanded immediate repair and sustainable protection to prevent further damage during the ongoing rainy season.

Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) conducted a special eviction drive on Friday morning to remove illegal occupations at the ground level of the Mirpur-10 metro station on MRT Line-6. The operation took place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and targeted structures that were obstructing passenger movement and safety around the station area.

According to DMTCL, all illegal establishments causing hindrance to commuters were removed during the drive. The company also warned that similar operations will continue in the future to prevent further encroachments. The Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (BJCD) has issued a ten-point emergency directive for its leaders and activists to assist flood-affected people across several districts. The instructions, signed by Office Secretary Md. Jahangir Alam on Friday, July 10, 2026, call for intensified rescue, relief, and rehabilitation efforts in response to worsening floods caused by continuous rainfall and hill torrents from India. The affected districts include Chattogram, Khagrachhari, Rangamati, Bandarban, Cox’s Bazar, Sylhet, Moulvibazar, and Sunamganj.

According to the directive, members are to help evacuate residents and livestock to safety, form rescue teams, coordinate relief with local BNP leaders, and ensure the security of homes left behind. The plan also includes providing food, medicine, and purified water, prioritizing women, children, and the elderly, and forming medical teams to prevent post-flood diseases. The central leadership, headed by President Rakibul Islam Rakib and General Secretary Nasir Uddin Nasir, will oversee the overall coordination.

Fatima Tasnim Juma, Liberation War and Democratic Movement Secretary of DUCSU and spokesperson of Inqilab Manch’s Dhaka University branch, announced that she has stepped down from her role at the Inqilab Cultural Center. She explained that she decided to hand over the responsibility to those who claimed it, considering it the right course of action.

In an interview given on Friday, Juma said the original goal was to establish the Inqilab Cultural Center as a public institution through a trust funded by the people. However, after the death of Shaheed Usman Hadi, who initiated the effort, his heirs claimed ownership. To avoid misinformation, defamation, and legal complications on social media, she chose to resign, emphasizing that preserving Hadi’s honor was the top priority.

Juma added that their focus remains on the revolutionary cause rather than any specific institution. She and her colleagues continue to hold responsibilities within the Inqilab Manch and intend to carry on their struggle and activities through that platform.

The Chattogram Education Board has postponed Saturday’s Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) examination because of severe flooding and deteriorating weather conditions. The decision was announced on Friday through an official notice signed by Professor Md. Parvez Sajjad Chowdhury, the board’s controller of examinations. The postponed test was the Information and Communication Technology subject, code 275, scheduled for Saturday across all districts under the board.

According to the notice, the new date for the postponed exam will be announced later. Due to power outages in many areas, acting officers at all examination centers have been instructed to inform local residents about the postponement through public announcements. Earlier, on Wednesday, the Chattogram Education Board, along with the Madrasa and Technical Education Boards in the affected areas, had also postponed HSC and equivalent exams for the same reason.

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has announced ten directives to manage the disaster situation in the Chattogram region following heavy rainfall and flooding. His adviser and office spokesperson Mahdi Amin shared the details in a Facebook post on Friday, July 10, 2026. The measures include continuous monitoring by the Prime Minister, activation of 1,057 shelters for over 12,000 people, and the distribution of relief funds and food supplies to five affected districts.

The directives also ensure safe drinking water, sanitation, healthcare, and food for affected residents. Security forces and, where necessary, the army have been deployed for rescue operations in hilly areas. Local representatives and BNP leaders have been instructed to assist victims regardless of political affiliation. Additionally, HSC and equivalent exams in disaster-hit areas have been postponed, and plans have been made to raise the Chattogram–Dohazari railway line by five feet to reduce future flood risks.

The Prime Minister’s Office expressed confidence that coordinated government action and humanitarian efforts will help the region recover from the crisis.

Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi, a top commander of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), has vowed to take revenge against the United States and Israel for the killing of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Continuous heavy rainfall has gripped Bangladesh for five consecutive days, paralyzing daily life across the country. Despite the departure of a low-pressure system from the Bay of Bengal, active monsoon winds have kept the skies overcast and rain unceasing. The Bangladesh Meteorological Department reported 15 millimeters of rain in Dhaka between 6 a.m. and 9 a.m. Friday, with 28 millimeters recorded in the previous 24 hours. The agency warned that heavy rainfall is likely to continue through Saturday and Sunday, with improvement expected after July 12.

Senior meteorologist Bazlur Rahman attributed the prolonged downpour to the global El Niño effect, noting that while June saw 30 percent less rainfall, July has brought excessive precipitation in a short time. He described the current rainfall as abnormal for the monsoon season, with unusually high intensity. The weather office also issued heavy rainfall alerts for all eight divisions, maintaining maritime warning signals.

Chattogram recorded the highest rainfall at 211 millimeters, followed by Teknaf, Satkhira, and Gopalganj. The persistent rain has caused waterlogging in Dhaka and worsened flood and landslide conditions in Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, and Sylhet.

India’s Ministry of Education has reported that an average of 13 schools closed each day during the 2025–26 academic year. According to the Unified District Information System for Education Plus (UDISE+) report, a total of 4,791 schools were shut across the country, with more than half of them located in Madhya Pradesh, where 2,426 schools closed.

The report shows that India’s total number of schools fell from 1,471,473 in 2024–25 to 1,466,682 in 2025–26. After Madhya Pradesh, Telangana recorded 1,392 school closures, followed by West Bengal with 568, Andhra Pradesh with 474, Tamil Nadu with 369, Karnataka with 281, and Himachal Pradesh with 266.

Some states, however, saw an increase in school numbers despite declining student enrollment. Bihar added 946 new schools, Chhattisgarh 234, and Delhi 87. Yet all three states recorded fewer student admissions, with Bihar seeing the largest drop of 437,037 students, followed by Chhattisgarh with 49,459 and Delhi with 45,250.

BNP leader and Chattogram-10 Member of Parliament Saeed Al Noman called on politicians to treat politics as an act of devotion and to stand beside people affected by waterlogging. He also stated that BNP’s acting leadership had instructed party members to support flood victims.

Noman urged BNP activists to remain beside the people and continue humanitarian efforts to ease the suffering of those trapped by water. He reiterated that BNP is a party of the masses and committed to helping citizens during disasters.

The Ministry of Primary and Mass Education has temporarily suspended Md. Mehtab Kayes, an Assistant Maintenance Engineer at the Directorate of Primary Education, for publishing the Primary Scholarship Examination 2025 results without prior authorization. According to a ministry circular issued on Friday, the suspension took effect on July 9, 2026, under the Government Servants (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, 2018.

The ministry stated that the results were finalized on July 8, and Kayes was instructed to upload them only after formal approval. However, on the morning of July 9, he uploaded results from nine districts of the Dhaka division to the official website, which briefly went live and allowed users to view and share the results on social media.

A three-member investigation committee, led by Director of Planning and Development Md. Mirajul Islam Ukil, has been formed to probe the incident and submit a report within three working days. The premature leak has sparked discussion and criticism among parents and stakeholders.
