Tan​zila Akter Tanu recounts her participation in Bangladesh’s July 2024 anti-discrimination student movement, describing street violence and repeated injuries. The historic Chand Khosal Mosque in Kishoreganj upazila of Nilphamari collected Tk 1,008,429 from its donation box over six months. The box was opened and the money counted on Wednesday in the presence of Upazila Nirbahi Officer and mosque management committee president Arifur Rahman.

Mosque management committee treasurer Mojnur Rahman said Tk 663,429 was found in cash in the donation box. A further Tk 345,000 was raised by selling donated items, including ducks, chickens, pigeons and goats. Together, the cash and proceeds from those items brought the total collection to Tk 1,008,429.

Rahman said the mosque’s donation box is opened every six months. Worshippers and visitors from different parts of the country donate at the historic mosque, which also has a significant amount of money saved in its bank account. Arifur Rahman said all money collected from the box would be deposited in the mosque’s bank account and later used for development and necessary work.

U.S. President Donald Trump has asked the Supreme Court to overturn a jury’s $83.3 million defamation award to writer E. Jean Carroll, according to a report published July 30. More than a thousand employees at leading AI companies signed a Tuesday petition urging US government support to slow the release of advanced artificial intelligence models because of safety concerns. Hilsa-laden trawlers are arriving at 19 coastal fish landing stations in Sitakunda, Chattogram, but much of the catch is not reaching local markets, according to a report published on July 30, 2026. A teacher, A T M Yusuf, 45, was killed after a BRTC passenger bus ran over him at Doyal intersection in Naogaon town on Thursday at about 8am. Yusuf was a resident of Jagatsinghpur Hajipara in Naogaon town and taught at Joypurhat Technical School and College.

According to the victim’s family and local sources, Yusuf was travelling by scooter to his workplace at Joypurhat Technical School and College, as he did regularly. At Doyal intersection, his scooter collided with a battery-powered autorickshaw approaching from the opposite direction. He then fell onto the road.

The sources said a speeding BRTC passenger bus travelling from Baludanga bus stand toward Muktir Mor then ran over him, killing him at the scene. Naogaon Sadar Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Asaduzzaman said police recovered the body after receiving information about the incident. The body will be handed over to the family after legal procedures are completed.

Tehran has blamed US and Israeli military actions for the closure of the Strait of Hormuz and disruption to international shipping, while saying talks with Omani representatives are continuing in Tehran. Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said the discussions began last week and remained under way, with a further meeting held on Thursday.
