A poor couple from Nandigram in Bogura, Rokibul Islam Rokib and Sharmin Khatun, became emotional after receiving a gift from Prime Minister Tarique Rahman. The couple had long suffered from a lack of clean water, unable to afford a tube well and relying on neighbors who eventually stopped helping. The financial assistance was provided on behalf of the Prime Minister to address their hardship, and immediate steps were taken to ease their water shortage until a tube well could be installed.
According to local sources, Rokibul is a Jubo Dal activist. A video highlighting Jubo Dal’s humanitarian activities circulated on social media, drawing attention to the family’s situation. The Upazila Jubo Dal’s senior joint convener, Abdur Rouf Rubel, visited their home before the assistance was arranged.
The Department of Public Health Engineering in Bogura has also taken notice of the issue. Its executive engineer, Md. Golam Kibria, said discussions are underway to allocate a twin-pit latrine under the National Sanitation Project alongside the tube well installation.
