A government investigation has concluded that inadequate pilot training and insufficient supervision contributed to the F-7 BGI training jet crash at Milestone School and College’s Diabari campus in Uttara, Dhaka, on July 21 last year. The accident killed 36 people, including 28 schoolchildren, and injured many others. The report, submitted after more than three months of inquiry, detailed the aircraft’s flight path and communication with air traffic control before it lost contact and crashed.

The nine-member commission, led by former secretary A.K.M. Zafar Ullah Khan, reviewed findings from the Air Force, Fire Service, and RAJUK before submitting its report to the interim government. It found that the building had only one exit, located where the aircraft struck, which worsened casualties. The commission dismissed allegations of body concealment but recommended compensation for victims’ families, which remains unimplemented a year later.

Milestone College has marked the first anniversary with two days of mourning programs, including prayers and tributes at the crash site.
