A preliminary investigation into the recent fire at the cargo village area of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport has indicated that the blaze may have originated from a short circuit. The finding emerged during a meeting held at the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) office on Sunday, attended by the civil aviation minister, state minister, CAAB chairman, airline executives, and business representatives. The fire broke out late Friday night near Gate 9 of the airport’s cargo section and was quickly brought under control, preventing major damage.

Investigators said the cause is not yet confirmed as the inquiry continues, focusing on technical and safety aspects. Officials noted that repeated fires attributed to short circuits raise questions about structural weaknesses and lapses in safety management. The state minister emphasized accountability, stating that negligence, if proven, would lead to strict action to prevent recurrence.

The final report will detail the confirmed cause, identify any responsible parties, and include recommendations to strengthen electrical and fire safety systems across the cargo operations.
