A garment worker couple was critically burned after a fire broke out late at night in their rented home in Savar’s Majidpur Dighirpar Mosque Bari area. The incident occurred on Thursday night. Local residents broke open the door and took Md Kaisar, 28, and his wife Rubi Akter, 24, to the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery. Kaisar was an employee of Vision Garments, and the couple lived in a ground-floor rented room of a semi-pucca two-storey building.
Residential surgeon Dr Shaon Bin Rahman said Kaisar sustained burns to about 100 percent of his body and Rubi to 88 percent, with both in extremely critical condition under intensive observation. Landlord Nur Mohammad said the couple had lit a mosquito coil before sleeping and he suspected it may have started the fire. Smoke filled the room, apparently preventing them from leaving. However, the exact cause remains unconfirmed, and there was no gas stove in their room.
