A local BNP leader in Mongla upazila of Bagerhat has been accused of assaulting a woman during a dispute over fencing near her home. According to local sources, the incident occurred on Tuesday afternoon in Ulubinia village of Sonailtala Union, when Salma Begum, aged 40, was putting up a fence to prevent livestock from entering her yard. Rafiqul Sheikh, the general secretary of ward no. 7 BNP, and several of his followers allegedly attacked her.

Local residents expressed concern over the violence, calling it a distressing act and demanding justice. The victim, now under medical treatment, claimed that her house and furniture were damaged and that her child was also attacked. She alleged that the assault stemmed from a previous dispute and that attempts were being made to drive her out of the area. The accused BNP leader denied the allegations, while other accused individuals could not be reached for comment.

Mongla Police Station Officer-in-Charge Atikur Rahman said no written complaint had been filed yet. He added that legal action would follow upon receiving a formal complaint.
