A restaurant employee was handed over to police in Gazaria upazila of Munshiganj on Monday morning for allegedly attempting to rape a five-year-old child. The incident occurred around 10 a.m. in Nayakandi village of Bhoberchar Union. Witnesses said the accused, identified as 33-year-old Monju, grabbed the child near a tube well, prompting the child’s mother to scream for help. Locals quickly intervened and turned the suspect over to police.
Monju denied the allegation, claiming he worked at Alif Kacchi Restaurant in Bhoberchar Eidgah area for about two months and was walking in the village after finishing his duty. He said he only asked the child’s name when locals attacked him, insisting he was not involved in any immoral act.
Sub-Inspector Md. Firoz Mia stated that police reached the scene promptly, rescued the accused from the crowd, and sent him to hospital for treatment. Inspector (Investigation) Md. Sabbir Hossain confirmed that the victim is under police protection, the suspect has been arrested, and legal proceedings are underway.
