An international clinical trial has reported unprecedented success in cancer treatment using a new triple-action injection called amivantamab. Conducted across 11 countries, the trial involved patients whose cancers had spread, returned after treatment, or resisted conventional therapies. The injection completely removed tumors in some patients, with visible results within weeks. Among 102 participants with head and neck cancer, 43 saw tumor shrinkage or disappearance, including 15 whose tumors were fully eliminated. The findings were presented at the American Society of Clinical Oncology’s annual meeting in Chicago.

Developed by Johnson & Johnson, amivantamab is being evaluated in about 60 clinical trials, primarily for lung cancer but also for colon, brain, and stomach cancers. The injection works by blocking the EGFR protein, inhibiting the MET pathway, and activating the immune system to attack tumors. Administered under the skin every three weeks, it showed mild to moderate side effects, with fewer than one in ten patients discontinuing treatment.

Researchers emphasized that the trial focused on HPV-negative head and neck cancer patients, a group typically difficult to treat, and that the therapy extended survival to an average of 12.5 months after standard treatments failed.
