A Dhaka court has dismissed a case filed against former interim government chief adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus, former health adviser Nur Jahan Begum, and three others. The case alleged negligence and deliberate actions leading to child deaths and illness due to failures in measles vaccination during the interim government period. The Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court issued the dismissal order on Monday, June 8, following a hearing.

The case was filed by Mujibur Rahman Iqbal, a Member of Parliament from Kishoreganj-5, in the court of Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Josita Islam. The other accused were former Health Secretary Md. Saidur Rahman, former special assistant to the chief adviser Dr. Muhammad Sayedur Rahman, and former Director General of Health Services Professor Dr. Md. Abu Zafar. The complaint claimed that the interim government halted UNICEF’s vaccine imports, causing shortages and preventable child deaths.

Earlier, on May 5, the Prime Minister’s Information and Broadcasting Adviser Dr. Zahed Ur Rahman said the government would investigate why vaccines were not administered during that period, though he personally believed there was no malicious intent behind the lapse.
