Two people were killed after an oil-carrying lorry collided head-on with a sand-laden truck on the Dhaka-Sylhet highway in Bejura, Madhabpur upazila of Habiganj. The crash occurred on Bejura Bridge at about 12:30pm on Sunday. After the collision, the sand truck lost control and crashed onto a passing CNG-powered autorickshaw.

Ripon Mia, 27, who was in the truck, and autorickshaw passenger Abul Khayer, 50, died at the scene. Traffic on the highway remained suspended for nearly two and a half hours, causing long queues on both sides. Madhabpur police, Shaistaganj highway police and Fire Service personnel reached the site and conducted rescue operations.

Rescuers removed casualties from the damaged vehicles and sent them to a local hospital. Traffic resumed at around 3pm after police and Fire Service personnel cleared the crash-hit vehicles from the highway. Shaistaganj Highway Police station officer-in-charge Shubho Ranjan Chakma said the bodies were being handed over to relatives and necessary legal action had been taken.
