University Teachers Link (UTL) has expressed deep concern and condemnation over violent incidents on Monday and Tuesday at Begum Rokeya University, Jagannath University, Dhaka College and Dhaka Alia Madrasa. In a statement sent to the media on Tuesday, UTL President Professor Dr Atiar Rahman and General Secretary Professor Dr Jubair Muhammad Ehsan alleged that activists of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal attacked student union leaders, teachers, journalists and students.

UTL said injured students were allegedly attacked even after being admitted to hospital, and that Chhatra Dal activists had kept the hospital under blockade. It also alleged that its organisational secretary, Jagannath University Professor Dr Mohammad Bilal Hossain, and Associate Professor Dr Omar Faruk were blocked while visiting injured students.

The organisation demanded an impartial, fair and swift investigation into all incidents and called for those responsible to be brought under the law. It urged the rapid release of the blocked teachers and called for safe, tolerant and fear-free learning environments at all educational institutions. UTL said disagreements should be resolved through dialogue, reason and democratic processes rather than violence, attacks or retaliation.
