At least 10 people, including Satkhira district Chhatra Dal vice-president Monjurul Alam Bappi, were hospitalized after an alleged attack in the Ghona area of Sadar upazila on Saturday night. The incident, reported at about 9:30pm, was linked to a protest over a call recording. Bappi alleged that activists of Chhatra League and Awami League attacked him and other Chhatra Dal members. The injured were admitted to Satkhira Medical College Hospital.
Bappi said a call recording involving Chhatra League leader Nazmul had reached them around 9pm and allegedly contained abusive remarks about a Chhatra Dal leader and the BNP. He said Ghona union Chhatra Dal president Nayan was detained when he went to ask Nazmul about the matter. Bappi said he and several activists went to the location after receiving the information and were attacked with bamboo sticks and iron rods.
Local residents said Ghona union Chhatra Dal president Jahid Hossain was detained before Bappi and 10 to 15 other activists arrived. They alleged the attack was led by Ghona union Chhatra League leader Md Nazmul Hasan and his father, Laltu Member. Police inspected the site and detained two suspected attackers, according to Sadar police station officer-in-charge Md Masudur Rahman. District Chhatra Dal and BNP leaders demanded arrests of those involved.
