Pickup driver Shahin was killed by gunfire during the anti-discrimination student-public movement in Jatrabari, Dhaka, on 5 August, according to the report. He transported goods for Tile Road traders and lived in a rented home in Jatrabari with his parents and family. His ancestral home was in South Joynagar of Daulatkhan, Bhola. The report says protesters gathered on major roads and near Jatrabari police station that day, when firing took place.

Shahin’s father, Abdul Majed, called for swift justice for every killing during the July uprising, saying the family was frustrated that no justice had been delivered after two years. His mother, Majeda Khatun, described Shahin as a source of hope for the family and also demanded justice for those responsible. Relatives said local BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami figures, as well as government and private organizations, had not checked on them.

The family said eight members had depended on Shahin’s daily income. His parents now stay with relatives in South Joynagar in hardship, while his wife, Swapna, lives in rented accommodation in Jatrabari with their two children. She used government-provided Tk 1 million to buy 16 decimals of land and an autorickshaw. Two cases were filed at Jatrabari police station, but the family said there had been no progress.
