Residents in Sylhet detained a private-car driver after an alleged attempt to abduct 19-year-old Imran Hossain by people identifying themselves as Detective Branch police. The incident occurred on Tuesday morning in the Jalalabad area, near Jamia Islamia Madrasa. Police said Imran was forcibly put into a car from in front of Rifat & Co. shop in the Surma residential area.

As the car headed toward Subidbazar, nearby residents heard Imran shouting and realized what was happening. Locals stopped the vehicle in the Madina Market area. Two people fled, while driver Samad was detained and beaten by locals. The private car was also vandalized.

Police arrived at the scene and rescued both Imran and Samad, admitting them to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital. Both were receiving treatment. Sub-Inspector Pranab Ray said preliminary signs of assault were found on Imran, while the driver had been subjected to mob beating. Police are collecting CCTV footage to identify the two fleeing accomplices and are preparing to file a case.
