A 17-year-old youth named Oliullah Farazi died after being struck by lightning while fishing with his father in the Payra River near the sluice gate area of Pachakoralia Union in Taltoli upazila of Barguna. The incident occurred around 11 a.m. on Sunday, June 7, 2026. Oliullah, son of Lokman Farazi, was fishing from a boat when sudden rain and thunder began, leading to the fatal strike. He lost consciousness immediately and was later declared dead at Amtali Upazila Health Complex.

According to local sources, the tragedy unfolded before the eyes of his father, leaving the community in deep mourning. Police from Taltoli station were dispatched to the scene following the report. Officer-in-Charge Saeedul Islam confirmed that necessary legal procedures are underway.

The incident has cast a pall of grief over the area, highlighting the recurring dangers of lightning strikes during fishing activities in coastal regions.
