The United States has congratulated Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on assuming office as Bangladesh’s newly elected president. The US Embassy in Dhaka issued the message on Saturday, saying it congratulated him on taking responsibility as the country’s 23rd president.

In its statement, the embassy said the United States looks forward to working with President Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and the Bangladesh government. It said such engagement is intended to further strengthen the bilateral partnership between the two countries.

The United States also reaffirmed its commitment to the continued development of US-Bangladesh relations, mutual cooperation and a broader partnership, according to the embassy’s message.
