Jared Kushner, an adviser to US President Donald Trump, indicated that US support for further Israeli military operations in Gaza could increase if Hamas does not voluntarily hand over its weapons and tunnels. He made the comments in a Fox News interview after meeting Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, according to a report published on August 19, 2026.

Kushner said significant progress in Gaza could be possible soon if Israel and Hamas cooperate. He said Hamas handing over its weapons and tunnels voluntarily within the next 60 to 90 days would be an important achievement in removing what he described as a major security threat for Israel.

He said that if Hamas fails to implement its commitments, the United States and others would conclude that the group is not serious about peace. In that case, he suggested Israel could receive greater international backing for military operations in Gaza. Kushner also said the United States wants to give Hamas leaders an opportunity to demonstrate sincerity, but that this must be shown through concrete action rather than words.
