A Dhaka court has rejected the bail petition of Ahmed Zubayer, former managing director of Somoy Television, in a case alleging fraud and forgery. Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Rakibul Hasan issued the order on Sunday afternoon. Court bench assistant Alamgir Hossain confirmed the matter.

The court had previously rejected Zubayer’s bail application in the same case on July 12. After he surrendered on Thursday, June 18, the court of Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Zakir Hossain ordered him sent to jail. Other accused in the case, Ahmed Rafid Kader Rivu, Sheikh Mahmud Yasin and Sani Chowdhury, are on bail.

Syed Asaduzzaman filed the case against Zubayer and five others on May 10, accusing them of fraud, breach of trust and document forgery. The court issued summons that day and ordered the accused to appear by June 17. When none appeared on the scheduled date, the court issued arrest warrants against all six accused. The other two warrant-listed accused are Zubayer’s wife, Shamima Sultana Chowdhury, and child, Saraf Nawar Jayita.
