In Ramganj upazila of Lakshmipur, miscreants allegedly poisoned a fish enclosure, killing fish worth about Tk 700,000. The incident occurred early Sunday, April 6, in Jafarnagar village under Vatra Union. The pond owner, Sujon, said everything appeared normal the previous night, but by morning he found numerous dead fish floating on the water. He claimed the poisoning was deliberate and that the loss has devastated his family’s livelihood.

Local residents visited the site after hearing the news and demanded that those responsible be identified and brought to justice. Ramganj Upazila Fisheries Officer Abul Kashem stated that the matter is being taken seriously and that an investigation will be conducted to take necessary action. Officer-in-Charge Firoz Ahmed Chowdhury of Ramganj Police Station said no written complaint had been received yet, but legal steps would follow once one is filed.

Authorities are expected to proceed with an official inquiry once a formal complaint is lodged.
