Testimonies from eight witnesses have been completed in the case against former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Benazir Ahmed, accused of acquiring over Tk 11 crore in illegal assets. On Tuesday, four witnesses testified before Dhaka’s Special Judge Court-5, presided over by Abdullah Al Mamun. They included officials from the tax, land registration, public works, and Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) offices. Earlier, four other witnesses had testified on May 20, bringing the total to eight. The court has set July 1 for the next hearing.

According to the ACC prosecutor, the trial began after charges were framed on May 3. The case was filed by ACC Deputy Director Hafizul Islam on December 15, 2024, and the charge sheet was submitted on November 30, 2025. Investigations found that Benazir declared assets worth about Tk 12.2 crore but evidence showed ownership of over Tk 15.6 crore, leaving Tk 11 crore unaccounted for.

The ACC has also filed five other cases against Benazir, including two where he is the main accused and three involving his wife and two daughters as co-accused. These cases remain under investigation.
