On February 6, at around 6 PM, a group of protesting students torched the ancestral home of actress Meher Afroz Shaon in Narundi, near the railway station in Jamalpur Sadar Upazila. The house, owned by Shaon’s father, Mohammad Ali, is a family property. Mohammad Ali had been a candidate hopeful for the Awami League, while Shaon’s mother, Begum Tahura Ali, had served five terms as a reserved seat MP for the party. Shaon herself had sought nomination as well. Eyewitnesses reported that following a protest march, some demonstrators set fire to the house. Firefighters rushed to the scene to control the blaze, but the extent of the damage is yet to be determined.
