Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir Secretary General Sibgatullah said that even after 55 years of independence, the people of Bangladesh have not yet experienced true freedom. He made the remarks on Thursday, March 26, during a rally and brief assembly organized by Islami Chhatra Shibir Dhaka Metropolitan at Baitul Mukarram Mosque’s north gate, marking Independence and National Day. The rally passed through Paltan, Press Club, and Matsya Bhaban intersections before ending at Shahbagh.

Sibgatullah criticized the ruling authorities for suppressing the spirit of independence and ignoring the people’s mandate from the February 12, 2026 election, in which about 69 percent supported the “July Charter” reforms. He alleged that the government was bypassing key ordinances and planning to repeal the referendum ordinance. He urged the authorities not to act against the people’s will and called for the protection of human rights and prevention of enforced disappearances.

He also expressed concern over the education system, human rights violations, and extortion in businesses, urging the government to take effective measures. The peaceful rally concluded with prayers for the martyrs of the Liberation War and the nation’s well-being.
