Argentine sports marketing executives Hugo Jinkis and his son Mariano Jinkis have admitted involvement in FIFA’s widely discussed corruption scandal. The two acknowledged paying millions of dollars in bribes to football officials to secure lucrative broadcasting and marketing rights for international football tournaments. Their admission was made under a deferred prosecution agreement with US prosecutors.

Under the agreement, the father and son agreed to forfeit or pay $50 million in penalties. In exchange, fraud charges filed against them will be withdrawn. Both executives are co-owners of the Argentine sports marketing company Full Play.

The Jinkises admitted paying bribes to obtain media rights for World Cup qualifying matches and the Copa America. The investigation and international legal process had continued since a US operation targeting FIFA officials in Zurich, Switzerland, in 2015.
