Islami Bank has temporarily suspended officer Mohammad Yasin Ali after he filed a complaint with the Anti-Corruption Commission seeking an investigation into alleged embezzlement of Tk500 crore. The complaint names businessman S Alam, former president Md Shahabuddin Chuppu, former managing director Monirul Moula and others, with 38 people cited in total. Published on August 11, 2026, the report identifies Yasin Ali as a first assistant vice president at the bank’s Foreign Exchange Corporate Branch.
Bangladesh Bank executive director Zahir Hossain said Yasin Ali was suspended rather than dismissed because he submitted the complaint on his own initiative without the managing director’s permission. However, bank documents reviewed in the report show that he received formal approval after a July 26 decision to lodge a corruption complaint, and a July 27 letter authorized him to take necessary action.
Acting Islami Bank managing director Mohammad Altaf Hossain said the information about Yasin Ali’s suspension was not correct, while Yasin Ali declined comment. Zahir Hossain said an investigation committee has been formed and further action will follow its report. The bank said four audit firms found irregularities and inconsistencies in loan approval and disbursement, forming the basis of its ACC complaint.
