Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General Mia Golam Porwar has alleged that both the ruling Awami League and the opposition BNP are attempting to control Islami Bank for their own interests. Speaking on Friday at a Jamaat education camp for members of the Chawkbazar-Bangshal zone, he said the bank’s destruction would severely harm Bangladesh’s economy. He urged the removal of associates of S Alam, whom he described as linked to the Awami League, and called for a corruption-free board composed of honest individuals, with a competent and ethical chairman.

Porwar also urged the government to revise the national budget to make it more welfare-oriented. He accused the government of betraying the nation by violating promises made before the election and criticized its handling of the referendum issue. He claimed the government’s reluctance to implement the July Charter was aimed at maintaining political control over state institutions. The event was presided over by Jamaat’s Dhaka South Assistant Secretary Delwar Hossain and attended by several senior party leaders.

Porwar warned that continued repression of Jamaat would not succeed and called on the government to focus on rebuilding a new Bangladesh instead of suppressing the party.
