Rangpur-3 lawmaker Md Mahbubur Rahman Belal and Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Rangpur metropolitan chief ATM Azam Khan visited the home where retired teacher Ganapati Chakraborty and family members were killed in Machhuapara, Ward 24 of Rangpur city. The visit took place after the killings, reported on August 23, 2026. Azam Khan is also a mayoral candidate in the upcoming city corporation election.

During the visit, the leaders spoke with local residents and sought information about the overall circumstances of the killings. They later told journalists that the case required a rapid and fair investigation. Belal said such a brutal killing was unacceptable and demanded the identification and arrest of those involved, disclosure of the actual events, and exemplary punishment for the guilty.

Azam Khan stressed the need for a proper investigation and speedy trial, saying the real perpetrators must be identified and brought under the law regardless of their identity. The speakers urged law-enforcement agencies to solve the case quickly and arrest those involved. Local residents also expressed concern, while grief and fear were reported in the area.
