State Minister for Water Resources Farhad Hossain Azad said authorities and supporters would not remain inactive if any shrine is destroyed. He made the remarks on Wednesday morning as chief guest at an Eid-e-Miladunnabi procession organized by Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat at Bijoy Chattar in Debiganj municipal headquarters, Panchagarh.

Azad said no shrine, pir-based spiritual tradition or religious site should be allowed to be vandalized in the country. He alleged that attempts were made to destroy 127 shrines and shut them down during the previous interim government, and said a shrine caretaker had been burned to death by another Muslim.

The state minister said Muslims should remain united by following the Prophet’s path and learn from the Prophet Muhammad’s life, principles and ideals. He said the Prophet established justice when merchants’ property was stolen in Medina. The event was chaired by Debiganj Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat president Hamidul Islam and attended by local BNP, Jubo Dal, Chhatra Dal and volunteer wing leaders, among others.
