Islami Chhatra Shibir President Zahidul Islam has condemned enforced disappearances, calling them “cruel, inhumane, and a grave violation of human rights.” He urged immediate political will and decisive steps to end the culture of disappearances that has plagued Bangladesh since past upheavals. Zahidul demanded the safe return—or full disclosure of the fate—of all missing persons, legal action against law enforcement officials involved, public disclosure of secret detention facilities (“black sites”), proper rehabilitation for victims’ families, compensation for survivors, and comprehensive reforms of law enforcement to prevent future abuses.
