Khulna University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Rezaul Karim said in an article that the university played a peaceful and disciplined role in Bangladesh’s 2024 July mass uprising. Students used human chains, protest gatherings, marches and awareness programmes to voice support for democratic rights. The article says coordinated programmes with Khulna University of Engineering and Technology, Government BL College, Khulna Medical College and other institutions built wider unity in the south-western region.

The account identifies the death of mathematics student Mir Mahfuzur Rahman Mughdha as a defining sacrifice for the university. It says he was shot while distributing water among people involved in the movement. After his death, students sought an absentee funeral prayer on campus. The university has moved to observe 18 July as Shaheed Mir Mughdha Day, rename its main gate Shaheed Mir Mughdha Toron, and establish a July ’24 Mass Uprising Memory Corner. It also plans to name an inter-discipline football tournament after Mughdha and install Mughdha Water Corners in university buildings.
