RAB-11 has arrested Rehena Akter, the second wife of pickup driver Md Ibrahim, in connection with his killing in a rented home near Nimsar Bazar in Cumilla’s Burichang upazila. RAB said she was the principal accused named in the case. The arrest was made on the afternoon of August 2 during a raid at a house in Dabagao area of Surma union, Sunamganj Sadar upazila, according to a press release issued on August 3.

Ibrahim’s body was recovered from the rented residence on July 12. Case documents cited by RAB said he had moved there with his second wife five to six months earlier, while his first wife and children lived with his parents in their village home. He continued to provide maintenance expenses for his first wife and children after the second marriage, and this had led to a long-running family dispute with Rehena.

RAB alleged that between noon on July 9 and noon on July 12, Rehena, with unidentified accomplices, strangled Ibrahim. The body was then hung from a ceiling fan with a scarf to portray the death as suicide, RAB said. Ibrahim’s father filed a murder case with Burichang police station on July 14. RAB said Rehena would be handed over to Burichang police for further legal action.
