The trial of former Dhaka South City mayor Fazle Noor Taposh, former textiles and jute minister Jahangir Kabir Nanak, and 26 others began on June 8, 2026, before International Crimes Tribunal-1 in Dhaka. The case involves the killing of nine people, including Farhan Faiyaz and Mahmudul Rahman Soikat, during the July Revolution in Mohammadpur. The three-member tribunal, led by Justice Golam Mortuza Majumder, opened proceedings with introductory statements and the first witness testimony.

Earlier, on May 10, the tribunal had framed formal charges and set June 8 for the trial’s opening. Four accused are currently in custody and were brought to court from prison. The tribunal rejected discharge petitions before reading out three charges against the defendants, who all pleaded not guilty and sought justice.

The prosecution alleges that the accused, including senior police officials and leaders of banned local Awami League, Jubo League, and Chhatra League units, ordered and participated in shootings on July 17–19, 2024, that killed and injured protesters. The charges include crimes against humanity for the killings and attacks carried out in Mohammadpur during that period.
