Police in Dhaka have arrested a 19-year-old man named Siam, also known as Imon, for the murder of 14-year-old schoolgirl Shahriar Sharmin Binti in Hazaribagh. The arrest took place on Thursday morning during a raid in Kathalbagan, only hours after the killing. At a press briefing at the DMP Media Center, Ramna Division Deputy Commissioner Masud Alam said the murder was planned after Binti rejected Siam’s romantic proposal.

According to police, Binti, a student of Rayerbazar High School, was attacked on Wednesday night near Haidar Hotel in Hazaribagh while returning from shopping. CCTV footage showed her walking with Siam before he stabbed her multiple times and fled. Locals took her to hospitals where doctors declared her dead. Police recovered the bloodstained knife and clothes used in the crime from Siam’s possession.

The suspect confessed to planning the murder out of anger after Binti refused to continue their relationship. Police have produced him in court and sought remand. A murder case has been filed, and investigators aim to submit the charge sheet quickly.
