Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam said the public has breathed a sigh of relief following the ban on the Awami League. “This government belongs to the people. The Awami League stole their voting rights and committed human rights violations, which led to the ban. The decision was made in consultation with all pro-uprising factions,” he said. Alam referenced a UN report that documented 1,400 killings, claiming the actual number is even higher. “The Awami League never expressed remorse. They branded anyone as a militant. Now, with their activities banned, peace is returning to the people,” he added. Alam also criticized the party for deceiving journalists over the past 15 years while focusing on grabbing plots in Purbachal, urging journalist unions to negotiate better protections with media owners.
