A Dhaka court has ordered five days of police remand for Nibas Majumdar, a central assistant secretary of Chhatra League and former vice-president of Dhaka South, in an anti-terrorism case filed by Tejgaon Industrial Area police. Metropolitan Magistrate Md. Manjurul Islam issued the order on Sunday afternoon, according to prosecution department Sub-Inspector Arif Reza. Majumdar was arrested from Pirerbagh in Mirpur.

Earlier on Tuesday, Tejgaon detective branch inspector and investigating officer Md. Masudur Rahman sought a 10-day remand after producing Majumdar before the court. The hearing was not held that day, and the court sent him to jail while setting Sunday for the remand hearing. Majumdar’s lawyer sought cancellation of remand and bail, while the prosecution opposed bail and argued for remand.

The remand application alleged that preliminary questioning produced evidence of Majumdar’s active involvement. It also alleged that he organized leaders and activists through online platforms and a Telegram group called “Sheikh Hasina Soldier Central.” The case alleges that on June 18, 35 to 40 leaders and activists held an unauthorized procession near Mohakhali bus terminal, raised anti-government slogans and detonated crude bombs.
