Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner Md. Musleh Uddin Ahmed announced that two individuals have been arrested in connection with the theft of the red telephone wire from the Prime Minister’s Office located inside the Bangladesh Secretariat. The arrests were disclosed at a press conference held on Thursday afternoon at the DMP headquarters on Minto Road in Dhaka. The detainees were identified as Ranjan Chandra and Rezakul Islam.

According to police information, Ranjan Chandra was employed at the Secretariat as an outsourced worker and was directly involved in the theft. The stolen copper wire was later sold to a scrap shop at a rate of 600 taka per kilogram. Police recovered a total of 8.2 kilograms of copper wire. Authorities also confirmed the arrest of the scrap shop owner linked to the incident.

The police investigation continues to determine the full extent of involvement and any additional suspects connected to the theft.
