Malaysian immigration authorities have rescued a 56-year-old Indonesian domestic worker who had been subjected to severe abuse and exploitation for nearly 16 years in Batu Caves, Selangor. The woman, who worked without valid documents, was promised a monthly salary of 600 ringgit but reportedly received no payment for the past two years. She endured physical and verbal abuse, had no access to her passport or phone, and was isolated from her family. During the rescue operation on November 24, she was found hiding under a car, apparently out of fear of her employer. A 51-year-old local man has been arrested and admitted that the woman worked in his home through a relative’s arrangement. The case is being investigated under Malaysia’s Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants Act 2007 (ATIPSOM Act 670). Authorities urged the public to report any suspected cases of worker exploitation or human trafficking.
