The World Health Organization (WHO) has placed Saima Wazed, Regional Director for Southeast Asia, on indefinite leave amidst mounting controversy. WHO Director-General Dr. Tedros Adhanom reportedly made the announcement via internal communication. Welcoming the decision, Shafiqul Alam, Press Secretary to the Chief Advisor, said: “An ongoing investigation into allegations of fraud, forged certificates, and abuse of power must lead to permanent action, including dismissal.” According to reports, Bangladesh’s Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has found evidence of misrepresentation regarding her qualifications, deception, and alleged misappropriation of $2.8 million in donor funds.
