Sixteen government primary schools in the haor region of Sunamganj’s Madhyanagar upazila have received boats to make student travel safer and easier during the monsoon. The boats were distributed under the 2025–26 fiscal year’s rural infrastructure maintenance (TR) program, funded with an allocation of 260,000 taka. The initiative was taken by Sunamganj-1 Member of Parliament Kamruzzaman Kamrul, and the boats were formally handed over to school heads and representatives at a ceremony held near the upazila’s Kachari ghat on Monday morning.

According to officials, a committee led by Khalishakanda Government Primary School head teacher Rashid Alam managed the construction of the 16 boats using the allocated funds. Madhyanagar Upazila Education Officer Delwar Hossain said that about 45 of the upazila’s 84 government primary schools depend on boats for student transport during the rainy season. He expressed hope that the new boats would improve attendance and ensure safer travel. MP Kamrul stated that improving communication in the haor area is vital for educational progress and pledged to gradually provide boats to all schools that need them.

Local education officials and school representatives attended the distribution event, which aimed to strengthen access to education in flood-prone areas.
