Nasiruddin Patwari, the chief coordinator of the National Citizens Party (NCP), has thanked the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) for issuing a show-cause notice to Mohammad Ashraful Islam, president of the BNP’s Ramna unit. The development followed a case filed against Patwari by Ashraful Islam. On Sunday night, March 8, Patwari posted on his verified Facebook account that he was withdrawing his earlier remarks about BNP Standing Committee member and political adviser to Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, Mirza Abbas.

In his post, Patwari expressed appreciation to the BNP for taking disciplinary action against what he described as an “overenthusiastic litigant.” He stated that he had withdrawn his comments and hoped such unnecessary unrest would not recur. Earlier that day, Ashraful Islam had filed a case with the Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court, alleging that Patwari had made false and defamatory statements during the 13th parliamentary election, in which he lost to Mirza Abbas.

The sequence of events highlights internal tensions between political figures following the election and the BNP’s response through disciplinary measures.
