Judicial proceedings at Bangladesh’s International Crimes Tribunal have slowed significantly, with only four of more than 70 listed cases resolved so far. Trials related to the July Revolution massacres and enforced disappearances are moving sluggishly, despite the tribunal being expanded from one to two benches. Prosecutors cite excessive caseloads, limited manpower, and logistical constraints as key reasons for the delays. Families of victims express growing frustration and fear that justice may be indefinitely postponed.

Investigations into major cases, including those against 11 senior Awami League leaders and several former security officials, remain incomplete. Trials of high-profile defendants such as former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her associates have seen minimal witness testimonies recorded over months. Families of slain activists, including Wasim Akram and Mir Mahfuzur Rahman Mugdha, lament that their cases have not yet reached trial despite nearly two years passing.

Officials and victims’ representatives are urging the government to increase the number of tribunals and strengthen prosecution and investigation capacity to ensure timely justice for the July Revolution killings and other crimes against humanity.
