Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has departed for Bangladesh after completing a six-day state visit to Malaysia and China. He and his delegation left Beijing’s Tasing Airport on a China Southern Airlines commercial flight at 5:15 p.m. local time on Friday, with their arrival in Dhaka expected around 8:15 p.m. Bangladesh time. The prime minister and his wife, Zubaida Rahman, walked the red carpet before boarding, while a ceremonial guard of honor was presented by the Chinese military. Chinese President Xi Jinping’s special envoy, Yu Xiaoyong, saw them off at the airport.

Earlier in the day, Rahman held a 50-minute bilateral meeting with President Xi Jinping at the Great Hall in Beijing, followed by a one-on-one discussion between the two leaders. This trip marked Rahman’s first foreign visit since forming a new government following the BNP’s decisive victory in the 13th parliamentary election. He began the journey on June 21 with a four-day visit to Malaysia before proceeding to China.

The completion of this visit signals the beginning of the new administration’s diplomatic engagements following the recent election.
