Bangladesh’s International Crimes Tribunal has sentenced former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to death for crimes against humanity. The verdict, delivered by a three-member judicial panel led by Justice Md. Golam Mortuza Mozumdar, was announced on Monday afternoon. Hasina, currently reported to be in hiding, will not be able to appeal the decision. Following the ruling, Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Secretary General Mia Golam Porwar described the judgment as impartial and of international standard, calling it a historic moment in the country’s judicial history. He stated that the verdict reflects the people's long-standing demand for justice against those accused of atrocities. The case, linked to alleged mass killings in July, marks the first time a former head of government in Bangladesh has received the death penalty from the tribunal, making it a landmark decision in the nation’s legal and political landscape.
