US President Donald Trump said he had agreed to cancel a potential military strike on Iran, conditional on reaching a “rapid” agreement with Tehran. In a message posted on Truth Social, Trump confirmed the decision, according to a report published on August 2, 2026.

Trump wrote that he had agreed to cancel the military attack for the future welfare of the world and the survival of a successful and prosperous Iran. He said, however, that the decision depended on reaching an agreement quickly. The post came amid reports in US media that Washington had been preparing to launch a new, major and forceful military attack on Iran later in the week.

Tehran had previously accused Washington of trying to raise tensions. Iran also issued a stern warning that any regional Middle Eastern country cooperating with the United States would be consumed by the fires of war. As the situation grew more complicated, the US government advised American citizens in the Middle East to remain highly alert and prepare to leave the region at any time if conflict and tensions intensified.
