A Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) officer was killed and three others critically injured during an operation in Jungle Salimpur, Sitakunda, Chattogram, on Monday, January 19, 2026. The attack occurred when a 16-member RAB-7 team attempted to arrest an armed suspect. Four members entered a suspected hideout and were suddenly surrounded by 20–25 assailants who beat them severely. Naib Subedar Abdul Motaleb, a Border Guard Bangladesh officer attached to RAB-7, died at the scene. The injured—Constable Arif, Nayek Imam, and a source—were taken to Chattogram Combined Military Hospital’s ICU.

RAB officials said the team refrained from firing to avoid harming civilians. The assault was described as sudden and planned. Additional RAB, police, and Border Guard forces have been deployed across the Salimpur–Link Road area to maintain order. Police confirmed heightened tension in the locality following the incident.

Jungle Salimpur has long been known for illegal land occupation, armed groups, and violent clashes. Authorities estimate the seized government land’s value at around Tk 30,000 crore. Security forces continue patrols as investigations to identify the attackers proceed.
