A 10-month-old girl, Arisha Jannat, was killed after an elephant struck and overturned a battery-powered autorickshaw in the Atrashi area of Sadarpur upazila in Faridpur. The incident occurred at about noon on Tuesday. Several other passengers were injured. Arisha was the daughter of Sajib Molla of Gulbandi village in Bhanga upazila.
Family sources said Arisha and her mother were travelling to Sadarpur Hospital for medical consultation when the elephant hit the vehicle. The autorickshaw overturned, leaving the mother and child trapped beneath it. Local residents rescued them and took them first to Bishwa Zaker Manjil General Hospital. Arisha died while being taken to Faridpur Medical College Hospital.
According to the report, a man named Bakul was collecting money from vehicles on the road with the elephant at the time. Angry residents beat the elephant’s owner, Bakul Mia, and detained the animal. Police from Sadarpur police station later took Bakul Mia into custody. Second Officer Mokhlesur Rahman said the child’s family had not yet filed a written complaint.
