The government has retired 33 senior police officers, including 14 Deputy Inspectors General (DIGs), under the provisions of the Government Service Act, 2018. The decision was announced on Sunday through a circular issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs, stating that the officers were retired in the public interest under Section 45 of the law. The order takes immediate effect, and the officers will receive retirement benefits as per regulations.

According to the circular, several of the retired officers had been involved in duties during the 2024 midnight election. Among those retired are DIGs Molla Nazrul Islam and Md. Saiful Islam, both currently under arrest, along with other senior officials from various divisions. The list includes additional DIGs and police superintendents from different units across the country.

The government’s order emphasizes that the retirements are made in the public interest and that all officers concerned are entitled to their due benefits under existing service rules.
