Iran is closing Tehran’s airspace on Monday to conduct the funeral and burial ceremonies of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. The country’s Civil Aviation Organization announced that all regular services at Mehrabad International Airport and Imam Khomeini International Airport will be suspended due to the large public memorial events in the capital. Flights had continued during Sunday’s funeral prayers.

According to the authority, Mehrabad Airport is expected to resume normal operations on Tuesday, while Imam Khomeini International Airport will remain closed until further notice. The measure aims to ensure security and manage the large crowds expected during the ceremonies.

Officials also stated that on July 9, when the final burial takes place in the northeastern city of Mashhad, the city’s airspace and operations at Shahid Hasheminejad International Airport will be completely suspended.
