A newborn rescued alive from a plastic bag in Barguna’s Bamna upazila has been sent to Dhaka for advanced treatment, according to the Barishal divisional administration. The child was transported by ambulance from Chhotomoni Nibas in Agailjhara on Wednesday afternoon to Dhaka Matrisadan Shishu Hospital following direct instructions attributed to Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.

The infant was found on Monday at about 3:30pm behind Fazlur’s shop, beside a coconut tree near a fire service unit in Sonakhali village. Divisional Commissioner Khalil Ahmed said the umbilical cord had not been cut and ants were covering the child’s body when the newborn was rescued. The baby was first taken to Bamna উপজেলা Health Complex, where a doctor cut the cord and provided initial treatment.

The child was later placed under care at Chhotomoni Nibas. Officials said the baby’s condition was stable, leading authorities to arrange road transport in an advanced ambulance instead of an air ambulance. An assistant commissioner, doctor, nurse, social services officer and medical equipment accompanied the transfer. Local residents expressed anger and called for efforts to identify the child’s parents and ensure future protection and legal guardianship.
