A court in Sirajganj has sentenced Ruhul Amin Shuvo to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment for trafficking and selling counterfeit cigarettes. The Additional District and Sessions Judge, Third Court, Md Nazrul Islam, delivered the verdict on Sunday afternoon, according to the report published on August 23, 2026.
The court also imposed a fine of Tk 50,000 on Shuvo. If he fails to pay the fine, he will serve an additional six months of simple imprisonment. Additional Public Prosecutor Abdul Latif Akand confirmed the verdict and said the charges against the accused had been proven.
According to the prosecutor, Shuvo supplied counterfeit cigarettes bearing fake banderols to different parts of the country using covered vans and mobile phones. The convicted man is the son of Yunus Ali of Baliapukur village under Boalia police station in Rajshahi district.
